We
took over at The Cottage in the Wood in June 2002
and in doing so realised a long standing ambition to run our own
hotel in one of the most beautiful parts of England. Liam trained
as a Chef at the Savoy, London and went on to work at the Midland
Hotel in Manchester. At the time, the Midland’s ‘French’ was
the only restaurant outside of London to hold a Michelin Star. This
was followed by over 20 years in Hospitality & Tourism education.
Kath trained as a Nurse in Manchester and like Liam, after many
years in clinical practice, also moved into the education sector
and was latterly employed as Lecturer in Health Studies at the University
of York.
Our vision is to create a memorable experience for our guests and
to gain the recognition achieved by outstanding hotels. Our mission
is to provide high quality, value for money accommodation and meals
so that our guests return to ‘The Cottage’ when visiting
the Lakes.
Images on our site clearly show the unique beauty of our location. ‘The
Cottage’ provides a relaxing and peaceful ambience. We aim
to ensure all our practices are friendly to the environment and we
are members of the Lake District Tourism and Conservation Partnership.
We also support the organisations Compassion in World Farming (CIWF)
and the RSPB.
In cooking, we use the best possible ingredients that are locally
sourced as far as possible. Our menus are produced freshly made on
the day, including breads, pasta and ice-creams. We see our guests
as individuals and we are delighted to provide for your own preferences..
