We were very pleased to be awarded Cumbria Tourism’s Dining Experience of the Year the annual awards ceremony this week. Our team have worked so hard to ‘raise the bar’ on what we offer and we’re all so proud of this achievement. Our kitchen team, led by Chris Archer is producing very creative dishes based upon some of Cumbria’s finest ingredients and Gareth Hussey, our front of house maestro has instilled a professional and relaxed ethos into our service.
We actually won this same award back in 2010, and went on to achieve a silver in the National Tourism Awards in 2011. However, this time around the competition has been much stiffer with four other very strong nominations. This included the Bistro at the Lakes Distillery, a casual dining winner that is one of our own favourites, The George and Dragon who serve great Gastro Pub fayre based upon produce from the Lowther Estate, The Lamplighter restaurant that attracted a great review from Jay Rayner in the Observer last year, and Forest Side, a newly refurbished luxury boutique hotel who are clearly going places.
All of the nominated restaurants deliver great food and service, and sometimes when you don’t win, you feel like a loser. We know, we’ve been there. However, that isn’t the case and everyone involved in these achievements should be very proud. We keep each other on our toes for sure!
Now we need to start thinking about representing Cumbria in the Visit England Awards 2017. Heads down then!
