What’s Cooking at the Cottage?

Our track record for using and promoting everything good about Cumbrian food speaks for itself. In 2010 we won the local Tourism Taste Cumbria award and went on to take the title for a Taste of England’s North West. The following year we represented the North West in the Enjoy England awards and came away with silver. However, when it comes to sourcing the very best food, we are not above diving into the larder of our Northern neighbours, and even further afield. After all, once the damsons have gone, you can only serve sticky toffee pudding for so long. And who could resist that wonderful pink rhubarb from the Yorkshire triangle, or even lemons and blood oranges from Sicily. We’re really ready for these great ingredients by the time they come along in February and March and they uplift our mood and taste buds.

Our Chef, Chris Archer aims to take the best Cumbrian food and put it alongside other world class ingredients to produce a menu that is creative and original. We need to ensure that Cumbria excels when it comes to entertaining not just our visitors, but also those who live and work in this wonderful corner of the planet.

So, as long as it is sustainable, ethically reared and kind on the environment, you could find it in our larder. Herdwick Hogget is world class, no question. But when it comes to Chorizo, maybe there’s still lessons to be learnt from the Spanish?
